What is a pale ale?
A beer fermented with ale yeast and brewed with predominantly pale barley malt, giving it a straw to golden colour. Hops from any region could be used, but common flavour notes include citrus, tropical or stone fruit, floral, grassy, and herbal. Pale ales can be clear or hazy, with bitterness levels ranging from low to high. Styles are often specified with prefixes such as West Coast, New England, American, or English, which indicate more precise flavour and appearance characteristics.
What does a pale ale taste like?
It depends on the hops used, as each variety gives the beer a different flavour profile. You’ll commonly find fresh, juicy and fruity flavours in hazy pale ales, you can experiment tasting different hop profiles through our Fresh From The Old Flax Store Series – small batch beers brewed at our original brewery site.
