Northern Monk is an independent brewery based in Leeds. Our mission is to produce beers that delight, unite and do right. Northern Monk was born in a damp cellar in the North in 2013 and is now one of the UK’s fastest-growing craft breweries.
WHAT IS A B CORP BUSINESS?
Certified B Corps are a group of businesses that have made a commitment to social and environmental goals, in order to find a new way of doing business for the betterment of people and planet.
The B Corp Assessment looks at all parts of a business; its products, practices and activities and, if successful, certifies that business as meeting high standards of practice across a range of categories. This also includes accountability and transparency, as well as a clear legal commitment towards those goals.

OUR B CORP JOURNEY
Being a certified B Corp has been a long-term goal for Northern Monk. Since the beginning, we’ve always operated with the B Lab attitude in mind, consistently asking ourselves ‘how can we grow in stature as we grow in scale?’
For us, it’s meant constantly investigating and improving our business practices and ways of working, and looking for opportunities to embed our social and environmental goals across the company, and our communities.
The Faith in Futures foundation has been a major contributor to this work, something that we, along with community stakeholders, have been developing since 2019. The foundation’s work has primarily been to support community organisations across the North in long-lasting, meaningful relationships. So far, we have raised over £130,000 for charitable causes since the launch of the foundation.

NORTHERN MONK, THE B CORP
We received our certification in August 2025, and we couldn’t be prouder of the work of our team in reaching this milestone achievement. But it’s by no means the end of the road.
One of the most valuable aspects of the assessment process is that it requires businesses to periodically re-certify, and improve on their previous score. This means that the B Corp approach and ethos become deeply embedded in our own working processes, keeping us aligned with, and progressing towards, our long-term social and environmental goals.
