LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Reports to: Quality Manager
Location: Leeds
Pay: £25-31K dependant on experience
Closing date: 7th October 2024

This role sits under our Quality Manager at our production facility. In this role, you will have an opportunity to shape the experience for the beer drinker. We are looking for someone who is passionate about beer, knows the importance of attention to detail, well-organised, proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are also important, as you will be working closely with all other teams at Northern Monk, especially the production and packaging teams. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist with management of stock  
  • Assist with ongoing improvements and efficiency’s  
  • Assist with the set-up and execution of sensory panels  
  • Assisting and keeping up to date with consumer complaints  
  • Daily, Weekly, Monthly housekeeping to a high standard  
  • Demonstrate a high standard of record keeping and data recording  
  • Ensure lab equipment is always maintained, safety procedures and maintenance schedules are upheld 
  • Monitoring fermentations and ensuring optimal yeast performance including propagating, counting and pitching yeast 
  • Participating and aiding in expansion with the in-house microbiology program 
  • Participation with onsite Hygiene and GMP audits  
  • Responsible for completing analytical checks of key beer quality specs in line with our quality programme from fermentation to final pack (e.g. EBC, pH, ABVs, and gravity)  
  • Troubleshooting alongside QM and other departments when appropriate 

ABOUT YOU:

  • Proficient use of Microsoft programs.
  • A Bsc in brewing/food science/ relevant education or IBD (can be working towards!)
  • Experience in brewing industry or food/beverage industry preferred but not necessary.
